Former Students Celebrate the Birth Anniversary of Freedom Fighter Durga Bhabhi
Lucknow Montessori School — the first Montessori school in Uttar Pradesh — was founded in 1940 in Lucknow by Durga Bhabhi herself.

Lucknow, October 7, 2025: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Durga Bhabhi, former students of Lucknow Montessori School gathered at the school premises to pay floral tribute to her statue and share stories and memories of her remarkable life and contributions.
Durga Devi Vohra, fondly known as Durga Bhabhi, was one of the most courageous women in India’s revolutionary history. Born on October 7, 1907, in Prayagraj, she played a vital role in India’s freedom movement alongside her husband, Bhagwati Charan Vohra, who was deeply involved in the revolutionary struggle. In 1940, Durga Bhabhi established Lucknow Montessori School, marking it as the first Montessori school in Uttar Pradesh. Her vision and pioneering efforts laid the foundation for modern early childhood education in the region.
