Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, 27 October 2026: Lala Puran Chand Sawhney Memorial Inter College, Deoband, Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, run by Triveni Engineering & Industries Limited (TEIL), is celebrating the outstanding achievements of two of its students at state-level sporting competitions.

Nikhil, a Class XII student, secured second position and won a Silver Medal in the 1,500-metre race in the Under-19 category at the State-Level Athletics Tournament held in Bareilly. Meanwhile, Anuj Kumar, a Class IX student, secured third position in wrestling in the Under-17 category at the State-Level Balak Pratiyogita held in Deoria. These achievements are a matter of pride for the school, their families and the wider Deoband community, reflecting the students’ determination and the importance of encouraging sporting talent alongside academic development.

The first student, Nikhil, from Village Gunarsi in Saharanpur, comes from a modest family. His father, Shri Jogendra, works as a bicycle repairer, while his mother is a homemaker and elder brother is pursuing his studies. Despite financial constraints and the challenges of meeting the nutritional and training expenses required for competitive athletics, Nikhil managed to balance his education with his pursuit of excellence in the 1,500-metre, 3,000-metre and 5,000-metre events.

Speaking about his achievement, Nikhil said, “This is a proud moment for me and my school. I am especially grateful to the Deoband factory school and my coach for their constant support, guidance and encouragement. They have helped me train with discipline while ensuring that my studies are not compromised. This achievement has strengthened my confidence and motivated me to work harder in both athletics and academics.”

Anuj Kumar on the other hand, is a Class IX student and a resident of Village Tasipur, Block Nagal, District Saharanpur, has demonstrated commendable commitment to wrestling. He is a state-level wrestler competing in the 48 kg weight category. Anuj’s sporting journey has been shaped by considerable family and financial challenges. His father, Shri Shyamlal, frequently suffers from ill health and is unable to work regularly, while his mother is a homemaker. His elder brother works as a daily-wage labourer to support the family. Given the family’s limited financial resources, arranging the nutritious diet required for wrestling training and competitive preparation was a significant challenge. Despite these hardships, he continued with his dreams of becoming a wrestler and brought recognition to his school and family.

Speaking about his achievement, Anuj Kumar said, “Wrestling has taught me discipline, patience and the importance of consistent effort. I am grateful to my school and coach for supporting my training while helping me continue my studies. I will continue training with dedication and hope to achieve even greater success for my school and family.”

Speaking about the achievements, Tarun Sawhney, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd., said, “Nikhil and Anuj Kumar have brought great pride to their school through their performances at the state level. Their achievements reflect the discipline, resilience and determination that sport builds in young people. We are particularly encouraged when students from communities around our units receive the confidence and support to pursue their potential. At Triveni, we believe that education must create opportunities for holistic development, and we will continue to encourage students to excel in the classroom, on the playing field and in life.”

Lala Puran Chand Sawhney Memorial Inter College, Deoband, supported by Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd., currently has 410 students enrolled. The school serves children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and encourages participation in extracurricular activities, including athletics, football, wrestling, kabaddi and powerlifting. The achievements of Nikhil and Anuj Kumar highlight the potential of young talent from rural communities and reinforce the importance of providing students with encouragement and opportunities to pursue sporting excellence alongside their education.
