Nepal earthquake: 154 died

Kathmandu: In Nepal, a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck late Friday night, causing significant destruction. So far, the confirmed death toll stands at 154, with a large number of people reported injured. Relief and rescue efforts are underway at full scale. According to the National Seismological Center and Research, the earthquake occurred at 11:47 PM, with its epicenter in the Jajarkot district.

Officials in Nepal are concerned that the death toll may continue to rise. Rescue workers are searching for people trapped in the rubble. Authorities have confirmed the recovery of 92 bodies in Jajarkot and 62 in Rukum West so far.

Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda, has arrived in the affected region to assess the situation. He has appealed for cooperation from all in the relief and rescue efforts. It has been reported that hospitals in Jajarkot and Rukum are overwhelmed, and injured individuals are being transported to Surkhet and Nepalgunj hospitals via helicopters. Medical teams from nearby areas have also been called in to assist.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and stated that India is ready to provide all possible assistance to Nepal during this earthquake tragedy. He emphasized India’s solidarity with Nepal during this difficult time and its willingness to offer support.
